X FIRE with Manic

First met Mc Manic last year when he stood in for Chickaboo at a live gig we did in Jerez, Spain. Liked his voice (and beard) and this is the result of collaboration we promised on the plane back from the gig after 7 hours (mainly drinking at the Airport)

  1. 1.THE RICH RULE US with Ruth Minuit.

Ruth and her Minuit co-horts Paul & Ryan were over last summer from New Zealand and we did a couple of shows together and decided it would be good to collaborate. They very kindly delayed their trip to LA a day or so to come and record this at my studio. William 'Allstar' South had already recorded some dirty guitar and bass so it was then a case of putting it all together into a filthy mass of funk rok.

COOKIE with Uberzone

I wrote this with Uberzone last time he was over here last July. He took it away to mixdown and at the time of writing still hadn't done it (when you are ready geezer!). So I took it upon myself to do a new version and await the original with baited breath.

ACROSS 111TH ST. with Larry Love.
It's only the geezer who sang the Theme Tune from the Sopranos. The Theme tune is one of my favourite pieces of music. Love everything about it esp Larry's voice....so to get the frontman from Alabama 3 to sing on one of my tunes is a real buzz. His Australian friend ICON has done some great backing vocals too. William South again picks up the guitar for this one and the tremendous horns are provided by Canadian Sax-playing supremo Andrew Spence & friends.

GARBAGE

I stole some audio from the TV in America on a cheap n cheerful Dictaphone as is my habit when dossing about in Hotel rooms. This track has just been remixed by Quest who heard a demo on the radio a while back and demanded a copy.

3. SLINGSHOT with BLIM

This was created originally for those wonderful people at Sony who commissioned myself and BLIM to come up with 3 minutes of breakbeat mayhem for the second  Wipeout game for their PSP console. They have let us do an extended version for your listening and dancing pleasure. It's got a real soundsystem vibe that BLIM and I seem to gravitate towards when we work together

2. DRUMMA.

This is a dumb track which came together very quickly and easily for a change. Based around a simple bassline and some 'live' vocals from a huge band who shall remain nameless. The distinctive cover came from a toilet wall in a building next to Danny Mac's Studio in deepest East London. You got to love technology when you can take a picture of an image with your phone send it to the designer who can make it into a front cover

Drumma Is also available as a single with mixes from Elite Force and Zodiac Cartel

4. ERASER.

Believe it or not this was done almost entirely on the train coming back from a gig in Norfolk. I was given a 'sample cd' full of brand new beats and riffs by the guy who'd produced it. Whilst going through the loops I started to cobble together some of the good bits and before I knew it I had a tune. A bit of arranging in the studio and adding that 'all important fuck-off bassline’ and before you could say ‘I know where you got that beat from’, I had a tune.

BRAIN DEAD HONEY (with Bella Saer).

Wild Willy South put me on to a bass synth pedal for my live bass playing pleasure. It makes your bass sound a bit like a 303. The main riff in this tune is the bass going through this pedal and it gives the track a nice trashy feel. Several 80's keyboard moments later I hooked-up with singer, composer Bellas Saer who came up with the nifty vocals. King Of The Beat Rich Thair on Live Drums.

DON'T BURN (with Arthur Baker).
The legendary Arthur Baker graced me with his presence a while back and whilst I was playing him a very rough version of this tune, he triggered the vocal samples on his laptop and

not only were they almost in time they were in tune. I like that fact that this is a dreamy roller that could have been done any time in the last 15 years. Lee from Diverted very kindly mixed this down again for me as the original version I got cut was a bit light on the bass. And we don't want that do we children?

CAN'T STOP (with Nine Lives The Cat).
This vocal was originally done by Nine Lives The Cat for what is now 'Across 111th St.’ I did it as a remix of that track and then decided it should be a new tune in it's own right. I played live bass on it and I love the punk funk feel of the tune. I even did a bit of a keyboard solo at the end which is bound to offend some purists. All I can say is 'Sorry Mr Purist'.

SO REAL.

Did this nearly 2 years ago as a reaction against 'Electro House' which is house but isn't electro. For the life of me I don't understand why they call it 'electro' when it isn't electro. Go get your own genre don’t steal someone else's. Andrea Lai has done a very fat remix of this tune.
