1987
Roy Collins gave up his normal daytime job to follow his dreams to have a career in music. When he first started he became heavily involved in Acid Music, he said before he used to hear it all the time on the radio and hated it with passion, but went to a rave one night and saw what the music did to people and became hooked on it. Roy was only 15 years old when he first got on the decks at parties, halls and small venues. To run his music, they used a reggae sound system which saw them through as they were starting out.. Everything changed when acid house took Britain by surprise and became the “now” music to jump to. Roy and friends found out where they could use a garage where they held their first venue in south London. It then progressed into a tidy rave club. Things went well, and it became a popular location and surprisingly, went on for 6 months before getting raided by the police!

1988
The Elephant & Castle was the first place where Roy got properly recognized. He was approached to play at parties for other promoters. It was while this venue was running that the name “Ellis Dee” was born. Between these dates 87 – 88 Roy found himself playing on a London Pirate radio station called ‘Sunrise’, but after two successful years, he packed it in and moved on.

1989 – 1992
As Roy has gained experience on the DJ’ing side, he decided to venture into the world of production. The first track he made was with the group that he formed: ‘Rhythm Section’, which he was a part of with Breaks guru, Rennie Pilgrem, (who currently owns the Breaks label “TCR”). He became only one of two DJ’s to be resident with the legendary World Dance Organisation. The other DJ was an ex-DMC champion and now a drum’n’bass legend, DJ Hype.
Roy, (Ellis Dee), has played for every major organiser in the UK and most countries in the world.

1994
This was the time that Roy got into the breaks scene with Rennie Pilgrem when they both toured Florida.

1995 - 1998
Roy was concentrating on Drum’n’Bass at this time in his career. This is when he formed Collusion Records with DJ Swan-E, where they both had the opportunity to meet with UB40 whilst working on a remix of one of their tracks – “Where Did I Go Wrong”.

1998 - Present Day.
He is running the breaks label ‘Point Breaks’ with his partner Syrus and still runs the Drum’n’Bass label Collusion Records with DJ Swan-E. Roy regularly records on Rennie Pilgrems Record Label TCR and has just recently mixed the latest in TCR’s ‘IZM’ series ‘Hedonizm’ which received huge support across the board.
Roy continues to be a popular DJ and plays all over the world - doing both breaks and oldskool sets.
